It was the Angels first game since pitcher Nick Adenhart was tragically killed by a drunk driver just hours after pitching 6 scoreless innings, in what was the best outing of his young career. Jarrod weaver mowed down 8 but his mind quickly
turned to Adenhart. “It was one of the toughest I’ve had to get through,” said Weaver. “It still really hasn’t hit home yet. I shed a couple tears before I went over there.”
The Angels are favored to win their division will do so with heavy hearts. My heart goes out to the Adenhart’s family.

UFC 97 happens April 18 in Montreal, the card features the best pound for pound fighter on the planet and a lot of Canadians. It’s not the best card we’ve seen but there are enough fights of interest to make it worth watching. Here are my picks for the fight, bet them if you wish. I will update this post a little later in the week with the most current UFC fight odds.
Anderson “Spider” Silva vs. Thales Leites
Anderson Silva has run through every fighter the UFC has put in front of him. He hasn’t lost cleanly (Silva was disqualified in 2006) since 2004. His last was to a Ryo Chonan who is coincidentally on the undercard for UFC 97. I don’t see Thales Leites putting up much resistance against the Spider. Thales Leites has padded his record with some unspectacular wins over Pete Sell, Drew McFedries and a suspect win over Nate Marquardt who had points deducted twice for dubious illegal strikes. In honor of the NCAA Final Four being played in Detroit I wanted to write a little bit about one of my favorite Michigan Alums.
Jalen Rose has been one of my favorites since the days of the Fab 5. Smooth on the court and even smoother when a microphone is put in front of him. I asked Jalen a few years ago if he rehearsed his quotes, he assured me they were 100% freestyle. Here are some of my favorites.
My number 1 and 2 come the day of the Vince Carter for a…well actually not much.
- “I’m a GM in fantasy basketball and I’m a GM on PlayStation, so on PlayStation I probably would have got a little more, but this is real life, so I don’t know.”
- After hearing Carter was traded to the Nets “Was it for Richard Jefferson”
- On Detroit “It must have been two in the morning when we got to Detroit, ’cause nothing was open but hospitals, jails, and legs.”
- More Detroit “I’ve got to stop this. My entourages are getting entourages.”
- And finally after a young LeBron put up 56 of the Raptor “Like I told the guys earlier, once he turns 21 and is able to drink, it’s over.”
We need more athletes who can speak there mind in a witty manner of course there was the always quotable Charles Oakley who gave us this gem “It’s like bringing eggs to a Bar-B-Que”
